Epoxy and Western Red Cedar
« on: April 13, 2022, 10:44:32 AM »
A question on Western Red Cedar will it take epoxy and is it structurally strong enough? I would use it for the pilot house roof and berth roof. The wood is clear 2x10x16, 5/4x10x20. I’m guessing it should. Thanks so much

The cedar should be just fine.  Some say the oils and aromatics in it make it hard to bond with epoxy, but I doubt that ... the wood is porous and thousands of cedar wood-strip canoes have been built and coated with epoxy and fiberglass with great success.  If it worries you, wipe it down with acetone and proceed...
