General Discussion about the Great Alaskan / Anodes for Wooden boats?
« on: February 13, 2024, 08:46:00 PM »
I did not know  about them for wooden boats but if you have stainless thru hulls the stainless/bronze is vulnerable to corrosion.

Quote
Maddox anodes are the only low voltage anode designed to effectively protect bronze and stainless steel parts on composite and wooden vessels by creating a more efficient pathway for cathodic protection.

I do not moor my boat so maybe it does not apply to non moored boats, any thoughts on this?

General Discussion about the Great Alaskan / Bow Thruster
« on: February 09, 2024, 03:55:58 PM »
I can see the need for a bow thruster and wish I would have planned for it. The Jet Thruster Micro has my attention, Json was the one who shared it on a previous post.

I know it is expensive but my boat is built and glassing in a tube up front which required glasswork on the inside and out plus the finish work involved is a deterrent.  I requested quote so maybe I will pull the trigger, wait and see.

The big advantage is drill some holes, coat the edges of the exposed plywood with 4-5 coats to be sure and do the install, they install the thruster nozzle with sikaflex that sounds just what I need; something easy to install.

I do not plan on putting the pump up front with another battery so I will check if I have space in the aft to mount the pump assembly and run the hoses to the nozzles up front.

If I go this route I will update.

Suggestions or opinions always welcomed.

I thought I would post this, I found a wiring diagram that seem all inclusive.

Might make a great sticky:

When I ordered windows. Motion Windows asks for wall thickness so trim ring can match +/- 1/16"  Fair enough, my walls are 1/2" - 9/16" thick so I ordered the 1/2" spec'd trim rings.

What I learned today.

1.  The foam tape provided to install is 1/8" thick and I would have added it to the wall thickness when ordering if I had hind sight.

2.  I have not tighted up my screws yet because I dont want to deform the trim ring.

3.  I will need longer screws than what was provided If I add a spacer to take up the gap.

I am curious what others have experienced.

Pics later.

General Discussion about the Great Alaskan / primer bulb or not?
« on: April 02, 2022, 07:52:09 PM »
Ready to attach fuel lines to kicker and big motor, do I need a primer bulb?  I seen hose assemblies with primer bulbs and my big motor has a rigging tube.

This is beyond my pay grade.

General Discussion about the Great Alaskan / Rigging Hose for Kicker
« on: February 27, 2022, 08:44:29 PM »
Looking for advice.

What do people use for the kicker rigging hose?  I see lots of 2" for the main motor.  I realize it is optional but what the heck.

General Discussion about the Great Alaskan / Anybody hear of Coosa Board?
« on: February 16, 2022, 05:32:22 PM »
If I was concerned about weight on the transom like with twins etc I would consider Coosa Board, 30-40% weight savings.

They can cut any shape, shipping is expensive for full size sheets.

After looking long and hard at networking I found a compact / simple solution by Actisense. and went with the 8-port and only need 5. (2 chartplotters, VHF, Mercury Vesselview, GPS/compass heading sensor).  You can find them on Ebay.
