Nice work Randy! Can't wait to see her in the water, it's an exciting day for sure! That's great that you documented your build on video, I am sure it was an inspiration to a lot of folks to just put some saw blade to wood and get cranking.

Second the glassing full sheets of ply. That saved a ton of time and work once I figured out that I could essentially glass and fair full sheets and then have what amounted to a finished surface to start with... Plus then all the scraps are already glassed when you start using scrap for various things.

Thanks Todd!

Those look good... Did you make that yourself? I just got a rocket launcher spread made for my ph roof, it's about 2 inches too tall but... Trying to find a way to make it work. The guys who made it didn't really listen to what I wanted so I didn't get what I was really looking for but I think I can make it work. The DIY route fixes that problem :)

Announcements / Re: Wynne Windows - Are you sure you want them?
« on: June 14, 2023, 03:06:57 PM »
I haven't had any issues yet with my windows, although my boat is fairly young. We got soaked at Catalina the other morning and I didn't notice any water ingress. I will keep an eye out though and look closer going forward, thanks for the heads up guys.

SOLD

It's probably not realistic to sell this here but I thought I would at least give it a shot... I am going to upsize my trailer to a 10k GVWR trailer, so I am looking to sell my current trailer. It's basically brand new, surge disc brakes on both axles, torsion springs, bow ladder, 2" ball receiver, bearing buddies, no noticeable wear on the tires. My boat is still within weight, but since I want to tow my boat all over the west coast and possibly more I should probably get a little more padding stats for travel with the boat stuffed to the gills. The trailer would be perfect for a non-kodiak GA or a kodiak built to be somewhat lighter. I paid $8k, will part with it for $6k. I need a home for my boat until approximately the middle of July, at which point I won't have a place to store this trailer so will need to coordinate pick up around that time.

Sanding these was definitely a PITA but I like them on my boat, I think they definitely contribute in a positive way to keeping the spray knocked down toward the water.

She is turning out fantastic Randy, congrats. I can't wait to see it in the water... Brian is right, launch quick, everyone loves to talk talk talk haha.

General Discussion about the Great Alaskan / Re: Steering issue
« on: May 10, 2023, 03:21:50 PM »
My boat is somewhat harder to steer to port I believe as well at speed, but yours sounds a lot harder than mine, which seems like it just takes noticeably more effort but not an extreme amount. Is the steering to port noticeably harder when not at speed? If speed has to be part of the equation it seems to me that it kind of has to be prop torque at that point, or at the very least the prop torque is significantly contributing to the issue. Is it an issue in both helms? Next time I go out I am going to pay more attention to the difference for me, I feel like one of the 2 is noticeably harder but don't remember which one. I don't remember putting both hands and 5x effort in tho

I am using a 3 blade Yamaha saltwater 2 series 15.5” x 17 pitch with my Yamaha f300. The boat is slightly over propped lightly loaded, so probably propped pretty good rolling deep (I haven’t had a chance to test that quite yet).

Nice. I had a grunt fest down at Newport the other day, looking forward to hearing how this works out for you.

Dang, that’s quite a tower! Looking good Randy, I am looking forward to seeing your project with paint on it… what paint did you decide to go with? Are you rolling or spraying?

Good info. I have been thinking of ways to move weight aft, specifically because I am looking at getting a bow rail done and I am not sure how much weight that's going to add up front in addition to what's already there. I am wishing I would have put in 2 fuel tanks instead of the 10 foot long single, because I think that exacerbates the issue to a degree. The 2 things I can come up with are the house batteries (120lbs) and the inverter (65 lbs), which are both inline with the helm. I think I can find a way to move the house batteries aft (albeit with some pretty major surgery), pretty close to the back of the cockpit, the inverter is going to be a little more challenging because it needs ventilation to keep from overheating. Beyond that there isn't a ton of stuff up there besides the giant winch on the front of the boat. I am going to have to look a little closer at how it trims loaded and ready for a trip (with 3 or 4 people in the cockpit), I think the bait tank being full helps but doesn't quite get there, hopefully some ice in the fish box also helps. I am not really seeing any real ill effects of the bow heavy trim, at least that I have noticed, other than the bow being low looks kind of silly. In any event, work in progress...
