Well, ok. I started working as an information officer at the Oregon Marine Board in 1999, a month before the mandatory boater education law passed. As you can imagine, it was a hot seat back then as lots of people hated the requirement (and by association, me). In 2004 I bought a 20’ Thunder Jet (boat show price from Siglers) and those registration numbers are what were given to me. Somebody in registration keyed it in! I was quite surprised. I then went on to the policy analyst position and did a lot of regulation development and public hearings. After 9 years of that and some blood pressure issues, I took over the education, guide and law enforcement program, from whence I retired. So I got a few coffee cups, an OR number and a nice award from the USCG. That’s the story. That background is why I always wear a life jacket and never drink and boat. I investigated way to many pointless fatalities.
