Electric boat winch
« on: April 09, 2023, 09:30:46 PM »
Momma wants me to install an electric winch with remote on my trailer.  Does any body currently use one they would recommend?

Well, I’m leaning toward the Sherpa 4x4 grunter.  Nothing else really looks like I want it.  Even looked at Warn.  I’m not doing a Chinese winch on the boat trailer.  I’m still hoping someone knows of a cat’s ass kinda deal so I can save some nickels.

Nice. I had a grunt fest down at Newport the other day, looking forward to hearing how this works out for you.

That winch looks like it will pull 2 boats without breaking a sweat.  I had electric winch for my aluminum boat, it sucked.

Please post a video winching your boat onto trailer, I have only hand cranked boats onto roller trailers and can only imagine how sweet it would be to push a button.

I tested it yesterday and it is operating as expected.  I put a big deep cycle battery on the trailer tongue so any rig can retrieve the boat. I ran out of argon so I’m on hold until Monday.  The wireless remote hasn’t showed yet.  To me that is going to be the cats ass

Good move installing the battery on the tongue, that's exactly how I did mine.  Long heavy cables are a PITA.

I always made sure to charge that battery before departure since I had short runs to the boat launch.

I have electric over hydraulic brakes on my trailer.  It already had a battery for the brakes, so re: the charge line the work was already done.  Today I welded the battery box and lid. All that is left is to install a hinge and this one is in the rear view.

Install is all done. I made the locking battery box.  It would be nice if there was a way to mount the relay without zip ties.  There is no mounting flange on the box.

Beautiful, professional, clean installation ... you're very handy!  Love that battery box!

I wonder if there are some narrow hose clamps or maybe narrow metal straps and the tool that binds them (think packing) that could take the place of the zip ties.  It's hard to tighten zip ties tight enough ... they always need that 'one more click'...

The relay box needs holes to mount it for sure.  The wireless receiver has them.  I will test ou the wireless next outing.  The winch is great!   Nice and quick and no one has wet feet
