General Discussion about the Great Alaskan / Additional scuppers
« on: November 21, 2016, 06:12:32 AM »
I'm still in the planning stages and looking for feedback about scuppers. I would like to add additional scuppers to the sides. I've seen discussions about raising the sole but I'm curious about just having the scuppers a few inches above the sole. That way sole to shelf height stays at the original design. My want for the side scuppers is for an emergency situation were lots of water is taken on. With them being raised and maybe some type of semi covering, I could keep dry feet but be ready for big waves coming aboard. Any ideas are appreciated.

With some spare time last week, I build this livewell using a fiberglass mold that I made.  It is going to go dead center of the fishing deck so that anyone can go get live bait without bothering anyone else.  When I get closer to plumbing this in, I will have to get help on where to put the high speed pickup scoops for the pumps.  I will need one for the bait well pump and one for the saltwater washdown pump.  I wonder if you can just put them anywhere along the "keel" about a foot from centerline....?
Livewell has about 5 layers of glass and about two gallons of nasty polyester resin.  But the Blue Gelcoat looks Cool!
Are you able to repost pics of your bait tank. I'm looking for ideas. I originally planned on putting it on the swim platform but now that you mention not being in the way others, your idea sounds better.

Introductions - Are you new here? Say hello! / GA Build
« on: November 20, 2016, 10:29:17 PM »
Good afternoon,
My name is Lamont. I'm in the Seattle area of Washington state. I have been gearing up to build a Tolman jumbo when I met Ed in Australia. Between Chuck and Ed, I have been sold on the GA. Both of these two have been extremely positive and encouraging. I had the pleasure of meeting Ed in person and was able to give him a hand with the flipping of his soon to be GA (Great Australia). Forgive me in advance for any simple questions I may post but I'm totally new to this boat building. What I do have is determination. It  would be good to hear from some of the guys that started a few years back. Have you finished, taking a break, lose motivation? If you need some spark, reach out to Ed. He is a funny and motivating guy. My plan is start and FINISH this project in short order. Not rushed, but approach with getting it wet and full of blood soon. Any tips or suggestions are always appreciate. If any local guys ever need extra hands, let me know. I'm willing to travel the west coast. I help and get to learn. A win win.
