General Discussion about the Great Alaskan / Re: Perko door handle

Once I took a look at the new piece to replace the broken one I saw how it is put together.  I simply repaired the old one and filed away the new one real simple with a brass punch.

Sweet corner gussets!

A good bowsprit and claw/Bruce riding on the bow is heavy.  Especially if it is on a pulpit(which I think is very sexy, thanks Robert).  Also I made the deck forward of the forward cuddly bulkhead 1 1/8? thick just like the sheer decks,  probably way overkill.  I do not worry about the winch pulling through it.  Fwiw I have my batteries behind the house bulkhead, inside my second station and the autopilot pump hanging on the transom.  With a 9? offset bracket and 250 hp hanging off it, I trim a bit bow down at rest according to the bottom paint.

I need to pull the ECM or air box from my kicker and verify it?s truly a 20.

It would be swell if the hydraulic steering to both engines as you describe was more, for lack of a better word??mainstream I guess.  When I asked to have my boat rigged that way they looked at me like I had snakes coming out of my ears.   I have a 20 hp kicker.  Suzuki with EFI, remote, and power tilt.   I would NOT want to come home with her doing the pushing.  It will, but it doesn?t do as well as I?d hoped.

I?ve seen some RV type that don?t really float my boat. I do know that the even the rv style door handles on my previously owned camper and trailers had lasted longer than I?ve been using the boat.  Having said that I don?t believe the cast aluminum stuff will stand the salt.  It?s the pot metal guts that failed.   There really isn?t much holding them together.  I had a notion to see if I could get a solid brass key made.  Brass is a lot more lubricating than steel on steel, or pot metal or whatever is inside the tumbler portion.  Or find a cheap something that gives the illusion of security and buy it in bulk!

I looked again yesterday and don?t see any Cadillac options for a locking door set.  I guess I?m stuck with Perko

I raised and tapered mine down toward the transom.  It?s nice to never have water standing on deck.

I didn?t see any other similar products for the PH door except the Perko stuff at that time.  It is definitely not a Cadillac.  As for the Anchortech I need to give it a try

Perko sent me replacement to fix my PH door lock set.   No trouble at all, just had to wait a bit.  I guess we?ll find out how resistant to heat Alexseal paint is.  It was sealed on with 4200 or 5200.  I probably won?t do that again.
For those of you with these Perko lock sets?. They need to be kept lubricated.  With what I?m not sure.

I love the CI.  Cant wait for this fall

I was admiring your work in the ?cost? thread.  I noticed you have an interesting looking floor mount for your dinette.  Do you have a link or a product description?   I have a flush mount and it keeps getting broken.

It looks and sounds like maybe leaving the UHMW (or wood) strip off the bow just above the lower bow eye ... easier to fit a bow protector onto the bow.  Maybe would even open up some commercially-made products that are designed for a simple V-shape bow.
I don?t remember this in the plans, but without the piece
You refer to sure made my job easier.  I added a pic in my post above

Yes, I see what you mean about the block.  Have you seen "japhands make it custom" on YouTube?  I'm not in the industry, but I think this kid is really talented and does also do some really cool hammer forming.  I have a pretty short attention span and have started into knife making.  I'm nearly finished with building a 2 x 72 belt grinder.
Yup, I made a boat.  It's a blast, I love being on the water in it.  It has exceeded my expectations all around.  Are you done with all the shake down stuff yet?
