Plans REWRITE - NEED YOUR INPUT!

I retire in about 2 months ... look for rewrites etc shortly thereafter - not redesign. I NEED YOUR INPUT! The goal is to refresh the 15+ year old set of documents and drawings to fill in blanks, provide better instruction, deeper information on various topics etc .... I can't complain at all with your plans.  I also think you've written it well enough for a first time boat builder to understand.

The only place that gave me any hesitation was when deviating from your plans.  (For example:  building a solid transom with swim pod and tying in the gunnel shelf.  I wasn't sure the brace was necessary or not, so I put one in  :) )

I am preparing to finish a build someone started a few years ago and will need to crack open the plans.  I'll try and find something for you to make better....  lol

For a rewrite of the plans, I would like to see a detailed breakdown of raising the rear deck, best practices for it and how far is officially recommended. I know I plan to build with raised decks and accomplish it with a taller LVL that I will notch down from the cabin section onwards, as I only want the higher rear deck for accommodation of a fuel tank, but since it?s a popular change I?d like to see some clarification. I have older printed plans so if this was already changed I apologize.

   Off the top of my head I can also imagine people wanting more options for a stiffer transom for twin outboards that people push the weight limits with already. Twin 150 hp outboards can creep up to 1200 pounds if you aren?t careful, and that?s a massive amount of weight for this light boat!

Yes ... good call.  I plan on adding info on raising and sloping the cockpit deck.  As for the LVL, your plan is fine as long as the forward section IS cut down to the original height.  Taller is not necessary and just adds unnecessary weight forward of the CG.

The current transom is already very strong and stronger than required for those twin 150s.  It's heavily glassed, is at the maximum thickness per ABYC recommendations, and has additional support inside the boat from the dry well construction.  No worry...

The only thing I would reconsider is wrapping the keel strake with fiberglass, or using a more flexible epoxy formulation to fare it to the bottom of the boat. My fillets have cracked a bit. To fix it, I ground out the area of cracking and replaced with some West System G-Flex I had hanging around in the shop. So far, that has not cracked.

Great info!  I hadn't heard about cracking fillets.  Even a light layer of fiberglass would prevent that (thx!)

I am very happy with the plans. I agree with Mills 27 some information on the raising the rear deck would be nice. I think all that information is available here but it would be good to have in the plans. Maybe some recommendations for balancing the boat. Some advice for people added heavier loads fore and aft.

In general the only problems I have had with the plans are when I think I have found a better way. It is one of those situations were half way through the task you realize oh that is why he said to do it that way oops.

One thing I have found indispensable is a self-leveling laser level.

Thanks, Jov.  I will definitely be fleshing out instructions on raising the deck, weight and balance and placement of heavy items.  I may, but may not (yet) add info on building the 'euro transom' as well (see Chuck Mazzola's boat and others).  Definitely need some discussion surrounding the bow thruster and it's pros and cons too.
