Sekiu, blood on the deck!
« on: June 27, 2025, 08:03:27 PM »
I had a quick 2 day trip to Sekiu with my father-in-law and my nephew.  First day landed 3 lings and release a small halibut. Thursday limed on Hali and 5 lings.  had a hali and ling on at same time while wdfw was parked beside me and they got to watch our 2 fish with crossed lines come up and gaff our 5th ling and release the halibut.  great day.

Also the insulated fish box in the floor we put 6 bags of ice in the first day on the say to Sekiu and fished Wednesday and Thursday.  We could not fillet the Lings Thursday because they were frozen!! Thursday was not quite frozen but so cold.

it was my maiden trip with camper, my 1999 f-350 handles the boat and camper beyond my expectations, Torklift Stableloads on the rear leaf springs were amazing, no body roll.

Awesome!  Great trip ... I'm jealous!

Can you use airbags together with the torklift stableloads?

Brian,

You can use airbags with StableLoads but they recommend no more than 50% of suggested air.

Here is some info:

Oh,

The scuppers, no water came in even with waves slamming the stern, my nephew is 300lbs, even with 3 people at the rear, nothing!   ;D ;D ;D ;D

Great news!  How much (fore and aft) did you raise and slope your cockpit deck?

Good point on how the airbags work, how the effectively transfer load away from the truck's suspension and instead concentrate it on the airbags.  I think most airbags require a hole being drilled into the frame too, and if the edges around the hole aren't deburred properly, then the frame can crack across the area where the hole is ... I knew someone who had this happen.  I've never been, at least without a lot more research, highly in favor of airbags.  The StableLoads transfer load from the main leaves to the overload leaves 'early', more or less making the whole stack work together right from the start ... that sounds good to me.  And the StableLoads can use wedges to help lift one side of the truck more than the other, e.g. to level out a truck who's load makes it lean to one side more than the other - like when hauling a 5th-wheel that has slide-outs on only one side (extra weight).

I raised the deck 4", no slope. In hindsight I would have a 1" slope on the aft deck.  At rest a bubble level, the bubble is closer to the rear hash mark. Moving the start and thruster battery along with the Jet Thruster Micro helped a lot.

Cool trip, that's quite the haul! I have an f350 and a northern lite, and put bags and stable loads on the truck. The stable loads are fantastic, they work awesome. I only ever use my airbags now to just bring the back of the truck up so the headlights aren't pointing up. I have flirted with putting the camper on and then pulling my boat with it but I haven't committed to that quite yet. The camper is 3k dry and I have about a 1k tongue weight, and my truck has a 3800 lb payload, so it would put my truck slightly over rated payload. One of these days maybe I will give it a shot. Anyway, thanks for sharing rbob! Looks like it was a fun journey and cool to see you hauling the camper and pulling the boat at the same time.
