Elk Hunting
« on: September 25, 2020, 09:56:49 AM »
Went archery hunting last week, hot and smoky and hard to find elk.  I did see one at 148 yards in the road but you know the story they will not stand and wait for you to close the distance.

Couple pics:

My 6.5 CM would've shortened that distance ... :)

Mine's a Kimber Hunter, lightweight model.  Sure carries better than my ol' Ruger :D.  Sub-MOA guaranteed from the factory ... flat and fast with the Hornady 143gr ELD-X bullets.  I've got mine sighted for point of aim clear out to 300 yards ... pretty much as far as I can shoot when in the field.

The one that got away!  This is from an Idaho hunt a couple years ago.

The big pig walked slowly by at 60 yards after I shot the 5 point with my muzzle loader.

If I had only knew he was so close...

Wow, what a monster!

Up in Alaska, a friend of mine was going to meet some of his friends in the field to do some moose hunting.  When he got to the spot, he heard loud clattering and thrashing around in some thick brush ... said, "C'mon guys, you can't fool me!  A moose never makes THAT much noise!!", and he charged right in ... a BIG bull was in the brush and he almost ran right into it!  It ran off quicker than he could get his rifle to bear...
